Central Planning Committe

The Encinitas Central Planning Committee on Urban and Commercial Real EstateCity Council voted to restrict usage of ground floor spaces along 101.  Stocks was the lone nay with Dalager recusing himself.  I have to agree with Mr. Stocks on this one.  This nation has gone way to far in the direction of government regulation and this is one more tiny step.  What will property owners do if no approved business wants to lease their space?  What is the problem with Yoga studios and medical offices?  I love the downtown area, but visited most frequently when my chiropractor was located there.  Peder Norby's comparison to Del Mar is not valid, in my opinion.  Del Mar's stretch of 101 is much smaller and does not extend to parallel streets.  Even a small number of "undesirable" business make a big impact there.  Don't forget the xenophobic attitudes of most Del Marians.

The merchants have way too much influence in this town because they married into the Barratt/Carltas family. Their spawn was Peder Norby who is allowed to lobby the council, while on the taxpayer's dime. He gets to lobby his directors, which is weird.

Norby's powerbase wants THEIR retail and restaurants to prosper on 101, and for that to happen you need lots of parking. There is not enough parking downtown, because the downtown specific plan sucks.

What they just did is terribly unfair and it is going to backfire. Thanks Norby.

Besides not enough parking there is not enough sidewalk. It's full of tables and chairs from the restaurants. Sometimes you can't get thru the maze of eaters, waiters and dogs.
Do the restaurants pay the city for use of public space?

Bob Nanninga will bring fresh perspective to Encinitas City Council. Nanninga is the only candiate in this race with a future focused vision.

Vote Nanninga!

I am.

Well I think you’re all full of shit.

Without addressing the issue, we would end up with fricken Realtors, Lawyers, and Insurance Salesmen along our mainstreet like Del Mar.

That’s a sure way to kill a downtown area. All you need to do is look at the last 3 new building developed along Hwy101.

Cardiff- Well Fargo Mortgage- Wow- I think I'll walk their and check out their cool merchandise.

Leucadia- Some mix use building which lower office space can only be occupied by an attorney or someone who can pull in serious revenue to support such high rent for a small place.

N. Encinitas just north of the car place.- that is one ugly cold commercial building that will be occupied by some office use like an Attorney or worse a insurance salesmen.

Most of council knows the issues on this one except Mr. Stocks.

Mr. Stocks can't understand. He's just not smart enough.

Peder has been a great positive influence to downtown.
It is not at all true that,"Their spawn was Peder Norby..."
What facts are there to support this statement?

I moved downtown so I could walk and not have to get in my car. I wanted to pretend I lived in a small town where you could find all of your services within a few blocks.

This council action means I will be more likely to have to get in a car and drive to Del Mar to talk to my attorney about the city breaking state laws that mandate that cities give us more options to be able to walk instead of drive a car.

I thank the council for making me have to drive to Del Mar.

Jerome Stocks and James Bond's legacy will be their implementing the huge pension and health care benefits for every City Employee for life that will sink the City's finances. This huge liability alone is the biggest cost that the City has to deal with.... Big problems in little china!

The newspaper headlines will read, “Jerome Stocks and James Bond sold out the Encinitas Residents for the sake of Union interests”.

You both should be run out of town.

I feel that individual business and property owners should be able to rent out to retail or office space. Given the choice, they will take retail, as that rents out for more. During these challenging economic times, we need less restrictions on private property rights, not more.

I am with Bob Nanninga on this issue. We don't need more and more restrictions that benefit a few business owners. Several business owners spoke against this plan.

I feel that Peder Norby, as 101 Czar is overpaid, and yes, he is lobbying Council for the benefit of a couple of groups, not listening to the "little guy."

Jerome Stocks actually voted correctly on this, but I won't be voting for him because I feel incumbents should be "termed out," after eight years. Stocks has not supported open government and has been pro development. He has NOT represented us well on SANDAG or NCTD.

I will be voting for Bob Nanninga, Rachelle Collier and Joe Sheffo.

James Bond promised he'd not run again after 16 years! He hasn't kept his word, and has not served us well in siding with developers over longtime residents. Maggie Houlihan voted wrong on the Sands Trailer Park issue, and the Walgreens development on Encinitas Blvd (as did Stocks and Bond) Vote out the incumbents!

Houlihan and Collier are working for Norby. What has Maggie Houlihan done for the residents of New Encinitas. Collier knows Leucadia, but what else?

The two fiscally conservative challengers Sheffo, Nanninga are getting my votes.

It's time for change
